The key to winning in every level of football is to have a reliable power running game. Most 6 man flag football teams are trying to install a complicated passing attack, always looking for the quick score. The key to success and winning games is ball and clock control. If you posses the ball the other team cannot score. The longer you have it, the more you are in control of the game. If you are leading or in a tie game it is in your teams best interest to kill as much of the clock as possible.
Most coaches and teams start to feel the pressure if you can control the ball with long sustained drives. They will start to choke up and when they get the ball will abandon their game plans and start trying crazy stuff. It pays off at every level of football to have a strong powerful running game.
The reason it is so important in a flag football league is that most teams do not have a clue on how to stop a running attack. Most teams will be passing or running sweeps, not running the ball straight down their throats. Most flag teams will not be used to a physical line drive blocking them at the snap. We show the power running game we used in our 6 Man Flag Football Offensive Playbook to attain a record of 30-3 over a three year period. We caught most teams off guard and unprepared to face a power running team. I know the other teams did not like how physical we were and that gave us an edge entering every game.
