As a veteran coach of youth football, I believe if you have the talent, you should always run smash mouth football. Consider the advantages:
- Ball Control – You keep the ball away from your opponent
- Longer Drives – You can control the tempo of the game
- Clock Control – You can shorten the game
- Less Turnovers – Running is safer than passing, especially at the youth level
- Intimidation – Opponents fear getting beat up
- Easy to coach – Good tough drive blocking is easy to teach
It doesn’t matter the age level you are coaching, if you have the talent to run power football them do it. Two of the best offenses to use for power running are the Singe Wing and Power I Offense.
The Single Wing is effective at all levels and works especially well with the first and second year tackle players. One of he main advantages of the Single Wing is the direct snap. The direct snap is much quicker and you have less turnovers since there is no hand off. Please check out our complete line of Single Wing Playbooks we sell on this site.
The Power I brings a more traditional offense with multiple lead backs hitting the hole. The Power I is best used with players who have at least a few years of experience. It can be a devastating offense to defend at the youth football level. We have a great youth version of the Power I playbook for sale on this site.
Which ever offense you decide to run please read over our blocking articles on this site as no offense will go anywhere without the proper blocking.
